2009 Movies

It's time to take a look at some of the movies that are scheduled for release this year. Last year, there were a few great movies released, and some real bombs. Many of the movies slated for 2008 release didn't make it to theaters. Here's a short list of some of my anticipated picks for 2009.

  • January 23rd - Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (following in the footsteps of Chuck Norris' Missing in Action films, this third installment is a prequel to the two earlier films).
  • April 8th - Dragonball Evolution (live-action re-telling of the popular anime series of the 80s-90s).
  • May 1st - X-Men Origins: Wolverine (can't wait for this one to come soon enough - Wolverine is one of my favorite comic book characters).
  • June 5th - Land of the Lost (re-telling of the Sid and Marty Croft childrens' TV show)
  • June 26th - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (sequel to the movie that was the modern-day version of the animated movie in the 80's, that was the next-step after the 80's TV show, that was the marketing device for the Japanese toys of the 70's).
  • July17th - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (the next film adaptation in the J.K. Rowling book series).
  • October 23rd - Astroboy (live-action adaptation of the 60's anime series).
  • December 18th - Avatar (live-action adaptation of the popular semi-anime series Avatar: The Last Airbender).
Other movies for 2009 that don't have release dates yet include:
Akira (live-action version of the anime classic)
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! (re-make of the 1970's cult-classic film)
Barbarella (remake of the 1968 film)

I'm still waiting for a Green Lantern film release date. Word was filming was to start sometime this spring... I can hardly wait!
